1. Calendar

A calendar is the foundation of a command center. You need a place to organize family appointments, upcoming events, project dates, and family vacation days. The wall calendar doesn’t replace our digital Google calendar (synced with my husband), since it makes life so much easier.

The first option is a magnetic calendar for those who have space on the side of the refrigerator to add their command center.

Then it’s an option of a wall chalkboard calendar. I prefer this option because then you don’t have to draw out your lines every time you change the month. Let’s face it, that is time-consuming. It’s bad enough you have to write in the dates and the month.

2. Paper Organizer

I love a place to put the countless papers that come into the house. From school paper, homework, mail, coupons and recipts.

It’s great to have this catch-all system to minimize the papers that will end up lost, torn or drawn on by little people. I know i cant be the only one who has drawlings on bills!

I am obsessed with gold. The file cabinet I have was from TJmaxx clearance and its gold! The option of putting the file cabinet on the wall is great but if you don’t have space, a desk organizer in the area works the same.

3. Family Command Center Boards

There needs to be a place for memos, chore chart list, artwork the kids brings home or doctor appointment cards.

It’s a good idea to incorporate different types of boards, such as a corkboard which allows you to thumbtack important information on the board. If you want to DIY then look at some examples of corkboard projects.

A clipboard is a good option for your kids’ artwork to be displayed. Or to add a list such as a chore list, grocery list, or a to-do list. If you don’t mind the normal brown clipboard, then I would recommend going to the dollar store and grabbing a few of them. Otherwise, grab a pretty one like the one below.

Then there are memo boards or chalkboards for writing notes to family members reminders, or words of inspiration. Those add a nice touch to personalize the area.

4. Personalize It!

Add a few items to give the space some personality! If you are crafty, then this is your way to get creative, especially if you have a Cricut. And don’t forget to get the kids involved.

Or if you don’t have the time and rather purchase something, then Etsy and Amazon Handmade is a great place to find it.

Also consider, Target and Dollar store because there are always those hidden treasures you don’t think you will find. I found a welcome wall sticker that I added to my family command center for a pretty addition.

5. Section for Hooks

If your family command center has space, then, it is a great place to add some hanging hooks for backpacks, coats, baby bags, pocketbooks, etc.

We didn’t have enough space for it on that wall, but our very small mudroom area is within the same area. I must have hooks for my keys, otherwise, it’s the same story which consists of me wasting time in the morning asking everyone they have seen my keys.

I decided to make a habit of keeping my keys on a hook which can be used for other small items, sunglasses, and a dog’s leash. Here are a few options:

6. Small Organizer

There are small things that you can add to your family command center to keep things even more organized.

What are the things you look for the most? Is it a pen or a pencil? Possibly the dry erase marker? A pencil holder is a perfect addition to keep everything you need in one place.

If you have a desk then this cute mail sorter is a good way to rid your home of daily clutter.

You can also get some Large Foldable storage baskets to your desk to keep things more organized. This would be a good place to keep winter gear ( gloves, scarves, hats) , backpacks, or sports items ( basketballs, baseballs, any sport related items).

Your wordpress site is very sleek – hope you don’t mind me asking what theme you’re using?
(and don’t mind if I steal it? :P)

I just launched my site –also built in wordpress like yours– but
the theme slows (!) the site down quite a bit.

In case you have a minute, you can find it by searching for “royal cbd”
on Google (would appreciate any feedback) – it’s still in the works.

Keep up the good work– and hope you all take care of yourself during the coronavirus
    scare!

    1. Hello Justin,

Sure you can copy the theme lol. I use Genesis Framework the BELOVED THEME BY RESTORED 316, which helps with speed and google rankings. You can click the link at the bottom of my site and it will take you directly to it.
